The 6th International Tartu Conference on British Studies
28-29 April, 2006
University of Tartu
The conference theme is meant to be interpreted broadly from an interdisciplinary perspective. The conference aims at bringing together scholars from different subject areas (cultural studies, sociology, anthropology, literature, linguistics, history, etc.). The conference seeks to be a locus of dialogue between different academic as well as non-academic discourses. Centrifugal and centripetal processes and the shifting of cultural boundaries within Britain and between Britain and the world will be explored. Implications of academic work for EFL teaching purposes will be borne in mind. The conference can be treated as an in-service training seminar for teachers lasting 16 academic hours or possibly more.
The conference will work in the format of plenary sessions and workshops. The presentation time in workshops is 20 minutes plus 10 minutes for discussion. The length of the plenary presentations will be 40 minutes, plus 20 minutes for questions and discussion. Speakers should submit a short annotation of their presentation (no longer than 100 words) and an abstract (no longer than 350 words) by March 15, 2006. Selected papers will be published in the Cultural Studies Series of the University of Tartu.
The conference fee is 600 EEK. For the students of the University of Tartu the conference is free of charge and full attendance combined with a response paper will amount to 2 AP. Participants, especially those requiring an invoice, are asked to fill in the registration form below and send it to the organizers well in advance, so that the University can have the invoices ready by the beginning of the conference.
