Eva Liina Asu-Garcia's venia legendi lecture on Estonian Swedish
Eva Liina Asu-Garcia, Associate Professor of Swedish Language from the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures (University of Tartu) will hold a venia legendi lecture on Estonian Swedish by the title of "Estonian Swedish: a conservative yet innovative variety" on Tuesday, 14 January at 14:15 in Lossi 3-305.
Estonian Swedish, which was once widely spoken in the northwestern and western coastal areas and islands of Estonia, is now virtually extinct. Linguistic features of this understudied variety of Swedish offer an interesting insight into the history of Swedish as well as language contacts. This talk focuses mainly on the phonetics of Estonian Swedish discussing both its archaic and innovative traits.
The lecture is in Estonian.
Everybody is welcome!
